Interns and fourth year medical students should seriously consider buying this book. It’s well written, relatively concise and filled with practical examples and clear analogies. Most importantly, it gets straight to the point of teaching you how to set and adjust the vent rather than droning on about the theories and science behind it all. I could’ve used a book like this 10 years ago when I met the poor guy who became my first ventilator patient. Come to think of it, I’m guessing he really wishes I had a copy of the book then too!
Thank you Dr. Owens!! This book is a Lifesaver for our patients and as well as myself. The "Ventilator Book" arms you with the essentials of mechanical ventilation, explaining modes, settings, indications, troubleshooting, alarms and ventilator management. My favorite part is the simplistic explanation of Acute Respiratory Failure and how to manage the patient. The "Light Upstairs" finally came on I have used this book in our Critical Care courses with Nurses, Therapists, Medical Students and Residents. It has everything in a concise, straight-forward manner. I highly recommend this book if you desire to understand Mechanical Ventilation in a simplistic manner.
A quick an efficient review of mechanical ventilators in the clinical setting. Probably on of the best close to The ICU book my Marino. Would recommend for anyone who is going to step foot in an ICU.
